General meeting 2010

After having served for seven successful years at the apex of SWISS LABEL, the association with the crossbow symbol for the promotion of Swiss products and services, the recently-elected President of the Swiss Union of small and medium sized enterprises usam, Zurich SVP National Councillor Bruno Zuppiger, has stood down. During his period in office, the number of members was able to be increased more than threefold from somewhat over 100 to approx. 400. The Lucerne CVP National Councillor Ruedi Lustenberger, proposed unanimously by the Executive Committee, was elected as his successor.

A change has also taken place in the management: Dr. Rudolf Horber, Chief Economist to the Swiss Union of small and medium sized enterprises usam, has stepped down as from today. At its most recent meeting, the SWISS LABEL Executive Committee elected Ms Agathe Tobola Dreyfuss who works as a political secretary at the usam as his successor.

The most important business for SWISS LABEL over the past year was again the "Swissness model"; after a great deal of preparatory work, the legislative amendment was published on 18 November 2009. What was presented was an ineffectual attempt to strengthen the brand of Switzerland. The legislation project must be corrected and simplified in various important aspects, most aptly by a sub-committee of the Committee for Legal Affairs of the National Council. Together with Swiss Union of small and medium sized enterprises usam and other allied organisations, SWISS LABEL will lobby for a business-friendly model that strengthens and not weakens the business location that is Switzerland.

SWISS LABEL, the association with the crossbow symbol for the promotion of Swiss products and services, continues to experience a membership boom: in 2009 a total of 52 new members were able to be signed up; this year has seen a further 30 members join to date. Currently, SWISS LABEL has over 400 members.

The crossbow: a genuine alternative to the Swiss cross

At the General Meeting in Bern on 9 June 2009, the President of SWISS LABEL, National Councillor Bruno Zuppiger, was again able to look back on a successful business year: The number of members continues to grow strongly and has practically tripled since the re-launch, six years ago: The crossbow lives - contrary to all prophecies of doom. After the General Meeting, a panel discussion was held on the future of the crossbow after the intended liberalisation of the Swiss cross.http://www.swisslabel.ch/cgi-bin/bilder/kein.gif

SWISS LABEL, the association for the promotion of Swiss products and services with the crossbow symbol, is experiencing a boom, in contrast to the current economic situation: in 2008 a total of 60 new memberships were able to be recorded; in the present year a further 21 new members have again been added to date. Presently, SWISS LABEL is able to boast 370 members.

The most important event for SWISS LABEL during the past year was the proposed "Swissness legislative amendment".  Our association fundamentally supports the suggested changes to the coat of arms statute, as this will clarify the rules relating to its use and allow instances of misuse of the Swiss cross to be better countered. Even in the case of a liberalisation of the Swiss cross, SWISS LABEL wishes to continue to retain its independent role and make a contribution to "Swissness" and to strengthening the place of commerce and employment that is Switzerland. A survey of members has shown that less than five percent wish to dissolve the association; the majority support the status quo and a large minority supports more stringent rules and requirements than those for the Swiss cross.

In the current year the following five activities have been given the highest priority: strengthened marketing efforts, with the objective of giving swiss label and the crossbow even greater visibility; monitoring and maintaining up-to-date contact information; a continuation and increase in dialogue with members; the definitive clarification of the relationship between the crossbow and the swiss cross in the light of the discussions concerning the proposed "swissness legislative amendment"; making a start on the preparatory work in respect of the renewal of the crossbow in many countries, which will become due in 2011; closer collaboration with allied partners, the better use of synergies.

General meeting 2010

SWISS LABEL: New president The General Meeting of the 15th June 2010 was dedicated to a change in the management: National Councillor Bruno Zuppiger has handed in his resignation. Ruedi Lustenberger, also a National Councillor, was elected as his successor. The management has also seen a change. Agathe Tobola Dreyfuss will take the place of Rudolf Horber. The "Swissness model" is considered to be overly complicated and insufficiently purposeful and thus needs to be simplified and revised from the ground up by parliament.
